Corruption dragnet in Liberia: Big Boy 1 and Big Boy 2 finally revealed!
After months of speculations and trading of allegations, the special task force set up to investigate the Global Witness Bribery Report in Liberia has finally revealed the names behind the mysterious persons mentioned in the report known as Big Boy 1 and Big Boy 2.
According to court papers filed by the task force, Former Minister and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy Dr. Eugene Shannon and Mr. Ernest C. B. Jones are Big Boy 1 and Big Boy 2 respectively as cited in the Global Witness report. Dr. Shannon previously denied any involvement in the Bribery Scandal and stated that he had never met any representative from Sable Mining, however, the task force said it has documents from the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization in its possession which shows that the two ex-ministers hosted representatives from Sable Mining on more than one occasion. Big Boy 1 and Big Boy 2 as alleged in the Global Witness Report received US$500,000.00 to influence mining laws in favor of Sable Mining. Also mentioned in the report to have received bribes were former House Speaker Alex Tyler, Former Senate Pro-Temp, Senator Cletus Wortorson, among others.
